1st session on the new gear!! New weapon of choice: Simmer blacktip 4.7 and Fanatic Skate
Took my 2012 black tip out of the packaging this morning for a session down at the legendary Torpoint in Plymouth. First thing I noticed was its a lot shorter than anything else I have ever sailed before (400cm luff for a 4.7).
Its so powerful!! most people were on 6 or 7m’s and I was hanging onto this little 4.7!! mega light and really nice to duck, so really happy… need to have a play around with the rigging though because I think I can probably do better.
The wolf in wolf’s clothing. Make no mistake, the Blacktip does what it says - and more. Built for more powerful, dynamic and aggressive sailors, The Blacktip is the underccover assassin without the undercover bit. Shock and awe in equal measure, The Blacktip delivers die-hard upwind ability and low end power when you need it, for as long as you want it. Light for jumping, stable for predictability, and for strong endurance - the Blacktip is equipped to deal with whatever, whenever, and whoever.
Gave Scott a call and managed to get him out of bed just in time to hit the tiny little easterly channel which appears at low water. flatter than anything you could possibly imagain, but its absolutly tiny- approx 20m wide and 100m long… only enough room for one or two sailors. Managed to nail some moves though so a really good session.
Was hoping to have some action pics of today but my mate who was going to take them was hungover or something so decided to stay at home. managed to grab a quick picture of the kit on my phone before the sun went down though.
If you have never sailed it before get yourself down to Torpoint in Plymouth. Works well in anything from an easterly, southerly and westerly (so pretty much any direction), but best in a SW. Get involved!
Off to do a bit of uni work, and see if I can write something interesting for boards magazine… Same again tomorrow hopefully!
Cheers to Jim at Pura Vida for sorting me out with my new sails!!!
